Devrim Peacock, PADI OWSI Instructor
My professional dive journey began in 2008 when I relocated from my birth country Izmir, Turkey to Fort Lauderdale. My introduction to water was early on as I grew up in coastal cities on the Aegean and the Mediterranean. I have been scuba diving for 20 years, including 10 years as a professional instructor. I earned an M.A. in Literature and History from Miami University of Ohio and completed Ph.D. coursework at SUNY, Binghamton.
I have been teaching academically for over 18 years and currently working at Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. As an educator, my passion lies in creating a comfortable learning experience and applying critical thinking even in the ocean. I encourage students to recognize their strengths, identify concerns and implement solutions that capitalize on sound assessments so that they can be "thinking," smart, and safe divers. I volunteer my time in partnership with various NGO's, and colleges and do weekly/monthly beach and reef clean ups. I organize and participate in Lionfish Derbies. When I am not diving and teaching, I camp, and hike with my 13-year-old golden collie, Cisco and play with my recent rescue kitten Rumi.
