IMPORTANT RECALL NOTICE!

Dear Valued Brownie’s Customer:

After a careful review, Brownie’s has established that there exists an unacceptable risk associated with using any of our Kayak Diving Hose Kits™ and conventional Brownie hoses made with 5/16-I.D. yellow hose produced/distributed after June of 2003. Therefore, Brownie’s™ is instituting a recall of the hose assembly. We have contacted the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and we are working cooperatively to recall all potentially defective hoses. The Commission will monitor our procedures and the effectiveness of the recall.

A careful review indicates that the hose end (barb fitting) can separate when pulled apart with significant, but achievable force. While this problem is not likely, it could be very serious and lead to loss of air supply to the diver while diving. We feel that the only responsible way to proceed would be to require that each of you return your hose assemblies to Brownie’s™ for evaluation. You only need to return the hose assembly (without the regulators).

We will thoroughly inspect and/or rework each hose assembly to ensure safe operation. I recognize that for many of you this is a notable inconvenience and I sincerely apologize for the trouble. We are dedicated to making the world's best products and to ensuring diver safety at all costs and this solution seems the only reasonable course of action.

1. that have the words BROWNIES THIRD LUNG AIR BREATHING LINE 5/16” I. D. 300 PSI WP U.S.A. printed in black letters on the yellow outer cover and pressure imprinted into the cover material.
   
2. are 5/16" inner diameter hose (not 1/4" or 3/8")
   
3. that have the letters KTM followed by numbers 302..., 304..., 306..., 307... printed on them.

* If your hose does not have all three of the above listed items it is not part of the recall and does not need to be returned. (However, we do encourage you to send in any hoses that are not functioning properly, even if it is not part of the recall.)

Please do not use your hose assembly until we have had the chance to evaluate and repair any necessary assemblies. The hose assembly should be returned to Brownie’s Third Lung™ at:

Brownie’s™ will be happy to pay shipping in both directions provided you allow us to have all hoses retrieved by our shipping company. Please contact our sales department at info@browniedive.com or 800-327-0412 (954-462-5570) for a Return Authorization Number and to arrange pick up your hose assemblies.

We will process hoses from end-users directly, or through a store, whichever is most convenient. Returns of used hoses will be handled in the same manner.

It is imperative that every effort be made to contact purchasers of suspect hose assemblies. We kindly asked our dealers to review their records to identify purchasers of the hose kits and Brownie™ hookah systems from the first of June, 2003 thru August 19th, 2003 and place a phone call, email, postal mail note or any reasonable means of communication to them immediately.

You only need to return the hose assembly. Please do not send regulators or belts!
